Taken…..took it all the way

February 27, 2009

I heard all the hype about Taken, so i had to check it out.  And honestly…it was pretty good. I have to give it two thumbs up. Liam Neeson delivered a stunning performance, as a former spy who has to save his daughter from forced prostitution on her trip to Paris. Great acting, great plot and storyline. Here’s a short synopsis of the film for your reading pleasure provided by IMDB.

The seventeen year-old Kim is the pride and joy of her father, the retired agent Bryan Mills that left the secret service to stay near Kim in California. Kim lives with her mother Lenore and her wealthy stepfather Stuart; she convinces the reluctant Bryan to sign an authorization to travel to Paris with her friend Amanda. When they arrive, they share a cab with the stranger Peter and Amanda tells to him that they are alone in Paris. When Bryan succeeds in contacting his daughter, she tells that criminals have just break in the spot and they are kidnapped by an Albanese gang of human trafficking. Bryan promises in the phone to kill the kidnapper of his daughter and immediately travels to Paris to find Kim and chase the criminals.

I would definitely recommend this movie, whether or not you like thrillers. This one is one for the collection.

Drew Barrymore in Twilight Sequel as Director???

February 27, 2009

Actress Drew Barrymore turns directing as a new direction. Recent speculation in the film world states that  Barrymore in the director’s chair for the third installment in the Twilight saga.

Well this one took me by surprise. Never would of thought that a person with little to no directing experience would get a shot to direct a big budget film. Hey, i guess they all have to start out somewhere right.

Set for release in June 2010 the third Twilight is to be titled, Eclipse. With the second Twilight sequel, New Moon, set to release November this year, one can only wonder why they’re trying to push out the films in such a hurry.  As we all now the best things in life are the ones worth waiting for. With the downgrade of directors and such close release dates, I’m not too excited about going to see this one. I didn’t really enjoy the first one that much, and probably won’t enjoy the rushed sequels. But….i could be wrong.

Eddie Murphy Hits the Screen as Richard Pryor

February 27, 2009

Yup…..Richard Pryor life story hits the big screen and Eddie Murphy is set to star in the biopic. I would have never imagined they would give the legendary Richard Pryor a movie, but alas our dreams have come true…. Being  big Pryor fan I’d want nothing more than to see a movie about the life of Richard Pryor, especially when Eddie Murphy is headlining….Now, I’m a fan of Eddie Murphy only when he’s playing certain roles. Mostly comedy, it’s nothing personal but it’s hard to take him serious otherwise. I am an advocate of people sticking to what suits them and the role of Richard Pryor suits him. Not only does the role suit him, he resembles Pryor a little bit too.

Set to direct the film is Bill Condon. Condon will reunite with Murphy after their 2006 chart banger Dream Girls, and I’m sure they will deliver a stunning and legendary performance. Fox Searchlight is looking for a 2010 summer release date, really looking forward to this one.

First Video Game Moives; Now Board Games

February 27, 2009

The infamous Gore Verbinski is in the final stages of negation to direct the second version of the mystery board game Clue.  I’ve heard the 1985 version of the movie was less than desirable, that being so the Pirates of the Caribbean director should have his work cut out for him. Personally I’m not a fan of the game and probably wouldn’t go see a movie based on it.

But Clue isn’t the only board game going to the big screen. Candyland (set to be directed by Kevin Lima) and Monopoly ( Ridley Scott is set to produce) are also set to appear as movies. I’m not exactly sure how Monolpoy could be made into a movie, but along side with Candyland it’d probably be something that i’d atcually want to go see.  To all the director and producers i wish you the best but you’ve got your work cut out for you.

Ghostbuster 3: filming in fall??

February 25, 2009

Dan Akroyd did an interview with the Boston Glode while promoting The House of Blues in Boston. Of course anytime Dan Akroyd speaks or appears in public, everyone wants to here about the possibility of a third Ghostbuster’s.This time ol’ Akroyd didn’t dissapoint. Below is what Ain’t it Cool reported:

[Comment From Tom] Dan, I’m extremely excited for the HOB to be back in its birth-city!! I will be attending many shows. On a side note, and I’m sure you get these questions a lot, so I apologize in advance…Ghostbusters 3? I’ve heard that the writers of the Office are currently penning a script? How is this coming along, and should we look forward to this movie seeing the light of day? Thanks Dan!

ghostbusters0012

Push was pushing it

February 25, 2009

I just got finished watching Push…… Not what I was expecting. I mean I have a fatal attraction to movies so I’ll watch just about anyone, but this one is pushing it… The plot takes a while to develop and characters pop up all over the place. Honestly it reminded me of Jumper, some superhuman race is being hunted by some super secret agency. I found myself drifting in and out of conscientious during this movie. But all is not lost; the actors make the film actually worthwhile and bearable.

Djimon Hounsou, Dakota Fanning, the always sexy Ming-Na, and Chris Evans all gave outstanding performances. It just goes to show that a good movie needs both a good plot as well as a good cast. Don’t get me wrong the film was decent but that’s it decent. So if you have nothing else to do with one of your evenings, why not watch it. It’d probably be a good waste of time. That being so i gotta give this one a 7.5/10. Below is a short summary provided by IMDB.

A group of young American ex-pats with telekinetic and clairvoyant abilities are hiding from a clandestine U.S. government agency. They must utilize their different talents and band together for a final job enabling them to escape the agency forever.

Underworld:Rise of the Lycans

February 24, 2009

Ok, I just watched the third installment of the Underworld movie series and i must say…..not bad lol. Great plot, acting and special effects. I am a big fan of prequels if done right and I must say Underworld: Rise of the Lycans was done RIGHT!

underworld-rise-of-the-lycans2  underworld_rise_of_the_lycans_poster  underworld-rise-of-the-lycans4

I don’t want to give too much away but this installment focuses on the relationship of Lucian(Michael Sheen) who served as Viktor’s lycan servant in the first of the Underworld series and Sonja, Viktor’s daughter. They are forced to hide their love for obvious reasons, one being lycan and the other a vampire. It’s a remix of Romeo and Juliet with a Dracula type twist. Anywayz…I would recommend going to see this movie or getting it on bootleg, whichever you chooze.  Here is a short synopsis provided by IMDB.

The prequel story traces the origins of the centuries-old blood feud between the aristocratic vampires and their onetime slaves, the Lycans. In the Dark Ages, a young Lycan named Lucian emerges as a powerful leader who rallies the werewolves to rise up against Viktor, the cruel vampire king who has enslaved them. Lucian is joined by his secret lover, Sonja, in his battle against the Vampire army and his struggle for Lycan freedom.
